DD0026: Literature Review Study Group September 2012
This web based study group will meet for one hour, six times per year. At each meeting, two articles will be reviewed and the person presenting the article will be responsible for a brief review and beginning the discussion. Each specialty will have an opportunity to be represented. The study group will provide an opportunity to present evidence based research articles that support concepts of dental practice in IHS that may differ from what dentists new [or old] to IHS may have learned or experienced.
The session on September 11 will give dental professionals basic skills in critical literature review. The course will include a description of primary and secondary publications, internal and external validity considerations, and how to interpret common statistical tests.
Upon completion of these sessions, the participant will be able to:
1. Name a strength and weakness of review articles and original research reports.
2. Explain the importance of internal and external validity.
3. Interpret a p value.
It is the policy of the Indian Health Service, Division of Oral Health, that faculty/planners disclose any financial or other relationships with commercial companies whose products may be discussed in the educational activity. The Indian Health Service Division of Oral Health (IHS DOH) is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. IHS DOH designates this activity for 1.00 continuing education credits.
Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
