Summary:

Concepts III is for seasoned, mature IHS and Tribal Dental Chiefs. This comprehensive course for dentists will expand on the principles and skills presented in Concepts I and II and take participants through the transition into leadership roles they may assume. Program development topics will be addressed such as Career Development, Mentoring, Delegation, Developmental Assignments, and Group Learning. Leadership segments will include Leadership Styles, Influence, Tipping Points, Negotiation Principles and Skills, Networking and Marketing. The curriculum is flexible enough to address the individual needs of participants. NOTE: For individuals who have attended Concepts III previously, enough new material will be presented to make this course worth repeating.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. State the importance and benefits of staff and program development efforts.
2. Identify their leadership style and apply the appropriate principles necessary to develop themselves, their program and to handle inevitable challenges.
3. Demonstrate how leaders use negotiation skills, influence and “tipping points” to garner support, make contacts, and identify resources for improving their programs.

Prerequisites:

This course is for Dental Chiefs, Area Dental Officers and HQ Personnel. Completion of Concepts of Service Unit Management II or Concepts for ADO’s and HQ Personnel is required except as approved by instructors.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
