Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the hospital is a full-service hospital, the only one of its kind in the eastern U.S. for the IHS. The large dental program provides comprehensive services at multiple clinics, and includes a large disease prevention program. Dental Clinic is an ambulatory care department within the Cherokee Indian Hospital. The hospital serves as a community and regional health delivery center even with its Tribal designation user pop of 13717. The dental user pop is 6,486 with 10,529 annual visits. The clinic has used the PCC/ component of the RPMS system since 1988. All medications and health care entries are placed in the RPMS while dental specific coding/workload data is entered into the Dental Package. The Cherokee dental staff also supports two satellite clinics being the Snowbird Dental Clinic [3 chairs] near Robbinsville, NC and the Marble Dental Clinic [3 chairs] near Andrews, NC.
