About RENO/SPARKS

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony operates the Reno Sparks Tribal Health Center [RSTHC], serving all Federally recognized American Indians/Alaskan Natives of northern Nevada. Three tribes share the colony lands – the Paiute, Washoe and Shoshone, and continue to live on the original colony land site near downtown Reno and in the new tribal community of Hungry Valley 19 miles away. In addition, the Tribe provides direct on-site health care to the eligible American Indian/Alaskan Native [AI/AN] population living in the urban Reno metropolitan area. The clinic’s catchment service area stretches from the greater Reno-Sparks metropolitan area 30 miles north eastward to Pyramid Lake and 30 miles south to Carson City. Per the Federal Indian Health Service [IHS], the 2008 active clinic user population is 4,111 and the estimated Census population is 6,071. The tribal clinic operates under a P.L. 93-638 contract with the IHS to provide medical, dental, behavioral health, community health, diabetes prevention, optometry and other outpatient services.
