BACKGROUND
In certain states Indian beneficiaries and facilities are under the jurisdiction of two or more different Indian Health Area Offices. There has been duplication of effort when representatives from the different Area Offices have consulted the same state and local officials concerning the Indian health program. The purpose of the attached issuance is to reduce this duplication by designating an Area Medical Officer to be responsible for coordinating contacts by Indian Health personnel with state and Local officers within a state.
