Transmittal Notice 10-05

TN 10-05
06/22/10

BACKGROUND:

This revised chapter updates the policy and procedures for providing Physical Rehabilitation Services (PRS).  The purpose of PRS is to provide eligible patients with essential physical rehabilitation evaluation and treatment, maximize their functional abilities, and improve their quality of life.  Physical rehabilitation services, which include occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology services, all play a vital role in the Indian Health Service (IHS) health care delivery system.  Each therapeutic discipline has uniquely evolved in terms of provider academic and licensure requirements, areas of responsibility, and independence.  All PRS therapists are capable of providing direct access patient care for those in need of rehabilitation services.
