The IHS Pharmacy Program works to provide integrated, patient-centered, culturally responsive pharmacy care that leads to optimal patient outcomes. Through strong relationships and innovative pharmacy practices, we aim to provide excellence in care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Our Practice Settings

IHS pharmacists serve in diverse environments, from remote, rural clinics to busy urban hospitals, bringing their expertise to outpatient, inpatient, and specialty care. As key members of healthcare teams, they contribute to local and national initiatives in quality improvement, clinical informatics, leadership, and more.

Leaders in Pharmacy Practice and Innovation

For over fifty years, IHS pharmacists have led the profession with groundbreaking practices that elevate patient care. They do far more than dispense medications. By accessing patients complete health records, including lab results, immunization histories, and medical backgrounds, they can guide therapy decisions, manage complex treatments, and promote safe, effective, and culturally respectful care.

IHS pharmacists serve as federal civil servants, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps officers, and tribal employees, reflecting the diversity and collaboration that define the IHS mission.

A Commitment to Excellence

IHS pharmacists thrive on innovation, teamwork, and clinical excellence, working at the top of their profession to improve the health and well-being of the communities they serve.
