Summary:

This one hour in-house training will provide an update on Caries Diagnosis, Risk Assessment, and Management to the staff at Shiprock. This course will look at the difficulty in diagnosing carious lesions, how to assess caries risk, and different management strategies.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Understand why explorers are not the best choice for diagnosing pit and fissure caries.

2. Understand what makes a patient high risk for dental caries.

3. Treat dental caries through means other than destructive surgical procedures.

Speaker / Presenter:

Rickey Thompson — After graduation from dental school in 1989, worked in the private sector for a year before joining the U.S Air Force. Transferred to the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps in 1993. PHS assignments have included Fort Peck Service Unit, Southern Colorado Service Unit, and Shiprock Service Units. Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
