DA0022: Concepts of Dental Assistant Supervisor Management
The purpose of this comprehensive course is to give IHS and Tribal Dental Assistant Supervisors a better understanding of the “nuts and bolts” of managing Dental Assistants. The course will include didactic instruction, provision of templates and tools and application exercises in personnel topics such as performance management, awards, discipline, conduct and leave. Additionally, social intelligence will be presented as a foundation for effectively dealing with the aforementioned personnel topics in a more functional manner.
The curriculum is flexible enough to address the individual needs of participants. Participants can expect pre-course communications.
NOTE: A forum for post-course follow-up will be developed to support dental assistant supervisors with the implementation of skills and actions developed in the course.
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Understand and apply basic concepts of personnel management to better carry out their duties as supervisors including performance evaluations, leave, discipline and awards.
2. Understand the principles of social intelligence and apply new skills in everyday interpersonal encounters.
3. Utilize “Social Intelligence” and “Difficult Conversations” as foundations to more effectively deal with challenging management and personal situations they will encounter with their staff, patients and Dental Chief Supervisors.
