Recommendation Core References

The drug information library of pharmacies at all facilities shall be adequate for the needs of the facility as determined by the scope and size of the facility.  At least one reference from each category shall be available.  References preceded by an asterisk (*) must available at the facility.  Only the most current edition of major references shall be maintained.  Reference monographs more than two years old and textbooks more than five years old are of very limited value.  Each pharmacy service shall include drug information references in the annual budget request.

The pharmacy service shall have available the current Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunizations of the Centers for Disease Control as published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports (MMWR).  The lead articles from MMWR (including immunization recommendations) are published weekly in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
