Hunter Health Clinic, Inc., a full service medical clinic devoted to providing comprehensive, quality healthcare to all cultures in all walks of life, with competence, dignity and respect, is searching for a Dental Hygienist [PRN]. The Dental Hygienist is responsible for the direct provision of oral hygiene and appropriate preventive services to dental patients of Hunter Health Clinic. In addition, he/she will also be responsible for providing appropriate oral health information to individuals and groups. The Dental Hygienist supports the Dental Director and provides quality dental care to all Hunter Health Clinic patients while maintaining compliance with all federal grants, OSHA, Dental Board, and Hunter Health Clinic policies and procedures. |
Responsibilities: •Assists in the oral health management of all clinic patients. •Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based on accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care. •Records patient-RDH transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the encounter, the condition of the patient and the treatment and care provided. •Provides oral hygiene education and appropriate individual counseling for all Hunter Health Clinic [HHC] dental patients. •Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with the accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and HHC’s clinical protocols. •Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient’s health care management. •Organizes and performs preventative oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations. •Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested. •Participates in the PI program of the HHC Dental Department. •Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as HHC Dental Department protocol and directive. •Assists in the maintenance of all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directive and policies as well as HHC policies and procedures relative to infection control, clinic business, and patient care of the Dental Department. •Assists with various clinical and administrative functions as directed by the Dental Director, staff dentist, as appropriate and as time permits. •Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive and HHC’s policy as well as state and federal regulations. •Complies in full with HHC’s Exposure Control Plan. •Travels when necessary to meet operational needs. •As directed by a supervisor, performs related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives. •Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and HHC’s rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality. •Assist in training dental assistants and other dental staff. •Primary care provider of dental hygiene services, i.e. charting, periodontal evaluation recording data, patient education, administer, local anesthetics, prophylaxis, root planning and scaling, pit and fissure sealants, polish fillings, fluoride application, radiographic exposures, all other duties deemed necessary by the Dental Director that are within the legal scope of the Kansas Dental Practice Act. •Assist with the development of dental hygiene and education program. •Assist in establishing, developing, and operating a patient education and home care program address dietary needs and deficiencies. •Assist in establishing and operating community dental awareness programs, specific scheduled screenings, etc. •Assist in operating oral diagnosis screening program. •Attend designated meetings as requested [HHC Board, Dental, etc.] •Conduct evening clinic a minimum of one [1] evening per week, as designated. •Actively participate in inter-departmental referral and follow-up systems. •Oversee, develop, and assist the Dental Director in the maintenance and monitoring of the Dental Department operations, functions, services peer review, and quality assurance. Keep current and maintain the Dental Manual. •Provide dental services as designated in this salaried position, as well as on-call basis. •Continuing education [dental-related college courses, workshops, seminars, etc.] and submit reports to the Chief Executive Officer and the Dental Director. •Meet required number of encounters and users as designated. •Other duties as assigned. Dental Outreach Duties: The position is full time with a broad range of duties carried out in support of CHC/SEK’s dental outreach program. Employee is given significant latitude in carrying out work. General instructions regarding work assignments and guidelines for performing work may be given either orally or in writing. Progress in meeting performance expectations and priority objectives is monitored through production and revenue data and through regular meetings between the employee and supervisor. Outreach Site Development – schools, Head Start, WIC, nursing homes and other public health locations with demonstrated unmet need. •Develop and maintain a network of contact individuals at outreach site locations. •Solicit approval from signature authorities to deliver on-site services. •Communicate with designated contact individuals at each site to plan events [estimated need, available dates, equipment/facility needs]. •Act as a liaison between CHC/SEK providers and site personnel to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption of daily activities. •Maintain a calendar of events with each site for follow-up care in consideration of established events [e.g. school schedule] •Provide necessary paperwork for designated contact individuals well in advance of outreach event. Outreach Team Development •Establish a comprehensive outreach clinic schedule reconciling outreach clinic dates with existing schedules ensuring manageable overlap of commitments. •Determine staffing needs and assignments. •Communicate staffing assignments with CHC/SEK dental scheduler. •Arrange transportation using CHC/SEK vehicles. •Submit equipment purchasing requests to COO. •Submit consumable supply purchasing requests to COO [in excess of $200]. •Provider oversight of data submission to KDHE by dental personnel. Other Duties •Promote CHC/SEK and the Dental Program by attending public events such as but not limited to health fairs. •Refer eligible/prospective patients to Dental Patient Navigator. •Perform public speaking to groups as requested and/or directed. •Provide technical assistance to other health centers and dental programs as directed by COO. |
