Summary: |
Located in Northeast Nebraska on the Santee Sioux Reservation, the Santee Health and Wellness Center provides comprehensive outpatient medical care with education, prevention, rehabilitation and evidence-based medicine to approximately 1,500 Tribal patients. The Registered Dietician coordinates plans and conducts programs to educate patients about nutrition. Administers medical nutrition therapy and may oversee and provide advice to food service and other nutrition operations on the Santee Sioux Reservation. |
Duties: | 1. Assists with planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the diabetes and other outpatient programs including nutrition services. 2. Assists with development, implementation and updating policies and procedures for the diabetics and other outpatient services 3. Reviews, selects, develops and disseminate suitable educational and counseling materials on normal and therapeutic nutrition for clients, community and for gestational diabetic clients 4. Assists with explanation of program and research findings to the Santee Health & Wellness Center, Santee community and educational and allied groups concerned with the control and prevention of Type 2 diabetes 5. Provides medical nutrition therapy to individuals and nutrition education to groups in outpatient or community settings directed at control of diagnosed diabetics and other disease prevention 6. Conducts nutritional assessment of clients, developing nutritional care plans with them and their families, consistent with cultural, social, and physiological requirements 7. Monitors Tribal and Community food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards. 8. Plans for and participates in group teaching and training of clients, staff, and community members to expand services and increase public awareness of diabetes and control and prevention 9. Provides consultation to professional and paraprofessional staff concerning diets and nutrition; records information in medical records regarding nutritional requirements, patient's progress, education, follow-up and etc. and performs other related duties as assigned. |
Qualifications: | 1. Bachelor Degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) in effect at the time of graduation. 2. Applicants must possess professional registration as a Registered Dietitian meets the requirements and certification as a Certified Diabetic Educator. 3. Experience as a nutritionist emphasizing the social, economic, cultural and psychological implications of food usually associated with public health care services or with food assistance and research activities. 4. Experience directing, promoting, and evaluating nutritional components of programs and projects; developing standards, guides, educational and informational material for use in nutrition programs and Diabetic Education Programs 5. Experience providing training and consultation in nutrition. 6. Experience working with Native American population. 7. Valid Driver's License and ability to be insurable through Tribal Policy. |
