In consultation with the Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN), the Lead Clinical Nurse (LCN) will implement work systems that assure the optimal use of all assets, staff and equipment. The Lead Clinical Nurse evaluates the Nursing needs of patients, develops a plan of nursing care, initiates patient care assignments, implements and modifies them as needed. In addition, provides or directs the provision of comprehensive Nursing care, delegation of duties to appropriate personnel, teaches and supervises their work as needed. Participates in the evaluation of the quality of patient care. May serve as the Acting Supervisory Clinical Nurse in the absence of the SCN. |
Duties: | Essential Functions: 1. As Lead Clinical Nurse, provides guidance to three or more employees and direction to ancillary departments, other Nurses, and health care providers including temporary intermittent personnel as requested or deemed necessary. 2. Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers to other facilities. 3. Ensures that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the tam's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. 4. Articulate and communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review and deadlines and time frames for completion. 5. Coach the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures and assist the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. 6. Leads the Team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; making adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensuring that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product. 7. Train or arrange for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks or projects, and provide or arrange for specific administrative or technical training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks. 8. Monitor and report on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the Supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. 9. Prepares reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinate the preparation, presentation and communication of work-related information to the Supervisor. 10. Represent the team in dealings with the Supervisor or Manager for the purpose of obtaining resources and securing needed information or decisions from the Supervisor on major work problems and issues that arise. 11. Lead the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made. 12. Manage leave in accordance with Department policy and approves Time and Attendance in HMS. 13. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the Supervisor or an appropriate management official. 14. Communicate team consensus and recommendations to the Supervisor on actions affecting team and individual awards, rewards and recognition. Informs Supervisor of performance management issues/problems and to recommend/request related actions. 15. Accountable to monitor all aspects of patient care when acting as Supervisory Clinical Nurse. 16. Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in department specific nursing knowledge and practice through continuing education. 17. Performs other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications: | Education: • A valid, current, full and unrestricted Professional Nursing License to practice nursing in any state of the United States of America, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. • Basic Life Support (BLS) Required • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within one (1) year of hire. • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) required within one (1) year of hire. • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)required within one (1) year of hire. Experience: A minimum of at least two (2) years of nursing experience, of which one (1) year must be in the Emergency Department. |
