About Tuba City Regional Health Care Corp (TCHRCC): The unique community of Tuba City offers a culturally rich environment. The Native American tribes located and served here are the Navajo, Hopi, and Southern Paiute. This mixture along with Anglo, Hispanic, and African American employees of the hospital and school systems make a pleasantly diverse community. TCRHCC is a general referral hospital with services in General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics (Labor/Delivery/Post-partum), Newborn, Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit, Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit, Operating Room, Ambulatory Surgery and Ambulatory Care. TCRHCC serves the Western Navajo Area, Hopi, and Paiute Indian Reservations. |
| Duties: | 1. Directs temporary and permanent employees of the following types: Lead Clinical Nurses, Clinical Nurses, LPNs, Nursing Assistants, Ward Clerks, etc. 2. Conducts meetings and conferences with subordinates/staff to explain work requirements, methods and procedures as needed and answer technical questions regarding work assignments. 3. Develops relevant manuals, including: Nursing Policies and Procedures, Nursing Standards of Care, Unit specific Policies and Procedures, Infection Control, NAIHS circulars, TCRHCC circulars, Material Safety Data Sheets, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Nursing Standards of Care and Unit Specific Policies and Procedures. 4. Develops and monitors clinical competency standards and take corrective action as necessary. 5. Identifies and coordinates the need for unit specific policies that guide the nursing practice, standards of care, current theory and practice. 6. Develops new unit policies and incorporates research and information into existing policy, reflecting current nursing practice. 7. Regularly reviews and updates existing policies. 8. Collaborates with all providers to establish unit objectives consistent with the goals and mission of TCRHCC. 9. Chairs the unit subcommittee for their respective clinical area. 10. Coordinates communication with multidisciplinary health care personnel. 11. Evaluates for staff/provider/customer satisfaction to identify areas that may impeded the delivery of excellence. 12. Interviews, by phone and in person, nurses and nursing prospects. 13. Collaborates in the management of all nursing care activities. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 1. Ensures smooth functioning of the nursing care unit on a 24-hour basis when assigned 2. Makes recommendations for the development of policies, which positively affect patient care outcomes 3. Participates in disaster drills 4. Recommends the need for major capital equipment purchases 5. Provides rationale for acquisition 6. Develops and operates within unit budget 7. Participates in the organizational strategic planning process 8. Maintains unit specific records for patient assignments, census, and chart review participation and emergency checklists 9.Assures that adequate amounts of supplies and equipment are available for the smooth operation of the unit This includes inventory and accountability for equipment. 10. Recommends and/or requests changes in stock levels and facility requirements. 11. Develops an orientation plan for new employee specific to their job description. 12. Coordinates and assures that qualified staff is available as preceptors for new staff and for nursing and students. 13. Facilitates unit in-services and continuing education by scheduling staff to attend staff development programs which result in a more qualified and competent staff. 14. Ensures staff meets nationally recognized certification standards. 15. Plans and collaborates with Inpatient/Outpatient nursing, community health nursing, and related disciplines on all aspects of continuity of patient care. 16. CNO/ACNO and other supervisory staff in planning, scheduling and providing continuing education programs which develop and increase the clinical knowledge and skill level of nursing personnel. 17. Assist CNO/ACNO, physicians and related disciplines in periodic review and revision of manuals, policies and procedures for care services. 18. Assist CNO/ACNO in establishing quality nursing standards and developing acceptable methods on continuous evaluation for improvement. 19. Assist Hospital, Community Health Services, Tribal Committees, and State Agencies, in planning and coordination overall health programs to provide comprehensive care for the community 20. Reports to and works with the CNO, ACNO, physicians and related disciplines in periodic review and revision of manuals, policies and procedures for patient care services. 21. Works with the CNO and ACNO in establishing quality nursing standards and develops acceptable methods on continuous evaluation for improvement. 22. Assist the organization, Public Health Service, Tribal entities, and State Agencies in planning and coordinating a more comprehensive health care program for the community. 23. Develops, implements and sustains a quality level of staff satisfaction to include but not limited to team work development and ensuring the accountability of the unit staff to TCRHCC's personnel policies and procedures and job description. CLINICAL ASSIGNMENTS: 1. Maintains clinical competence and expertise in specialty area. 2. Provide skilled and comprehensive nursing care to the patients. 3. Closely observes patients for conditions which may require emergency measures. 4. Exercises sound judgment in interpreting observations to the physician and initiating emergency measures. 5. Provides age appropriate, skilled and comprehensive nursing care to the patients who, because of the complexity of their condition, require frequent adaptation of the usual nursing procedures. 6. Develops, implements, evaluates and provides competency programs to ensure that age specific care is rendered and that emergency intervention skill are maintained by all staff. 7. Attends workshops and meetings pertaining to administrative matters such as the Joint Commission standards, recruiting and retention, budget, quality and safety patient/staff management, personnel management and other related topics. 8. Hires and follows Navajo/Indian Preference in Employment Policy. 9.Performs other duties as assigned. |
| Qualifications: | Required education: Bachelor's Required experience: 3 years as an ICU Nurse with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position; AND 2 years of progressive experience in personnel and department management and supervision. Required license or certification: Professional Nursing Licens; AHA-BLS and AHA-ACLS |
