Serves as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) providing medical and health care for patients in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic at the FDIHB and/or the Nahat'á Dziil Health Center. Duties: Provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic mental illness in children, adolescent, and adult patients. Gives total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow up services. Perform "walk-in" intakes. Perform biopsychosocial evaluations and make appropriate assessments to determine a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan which may involve admission, discharge, and arranging for specialized care. Provides supportive therapy, counseling and guidance to individuals, families, and groups. Conducts history and physical examination of patients, assesses physical condition, and orders various tests (e.g., laboratory, neurological, and psychological tests). Provides case management functions; provides short or long-term psychotherapy; prescribes psychotropic medications and supervises medication maintenance by evaluation of the patient's response to drug therapy and determines continuing medication regime in consultation with physician. Provides medical care and preventive services to all individuals, including guidance in nutrition, common illnesses, accidents, growth and development. Provides nursing functions such as measurement and interpretation of vital signs, lab results and administration of intra-venous medications and monitors patient's response to drug therapy and provides education on medication interaction(s). Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, and workshops, and home study. Provides full range of emergency services or crisis intervention including evaluation and assessment in the Emergency Department of all patients referred for evaluation purposes. This may include, but not limited to, patients who present in acute crises situations. Participate in the Mental Health after hour and weekend "on-call" rotation. Teaches patients and family member's ways to maintain or improve their health status. Maintains records and reports on patients, personal activities and other required information for use in program operation, quality assurance and other purposes. ? Participates in Quality Assurance review processes. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Experience: One (1) year direct work experience in a clinical or hospital setting as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Education: • Completion of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse School in the following area: o Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner • Active unrestricted Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory in the following areas: o Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner • National Certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credentialing Center in the following area: o Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) • Current, valid, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License. • Must maintain an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license from any U.S. State or Territory. • Must have Knowledge of established concepts, principles and practices related to Nurse Practitioner training, with full consideration of mental, emotional and physical factors. • Language Skills: This position requires a knowledge of, and sensitivity to, cultural and language differences. • Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal skills in handling interactions with hospital staff, other agencies, groups, and patients and families. • Technology Skills: Competent in use of Electronic Medical Records • Other Skills: Must be able to work as a team member and develop productive and cooperative working relationships with all members of the health care team. • Meets the criteria for Credentialing & Privileging in accordance to the FDIHB Medical Staff Bylaws. • A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
