Summary: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are actively completing a required professional training program and are expected to complete such program within 9 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-11 grade level. Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include: Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems; Setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs; Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or Other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position. Additional Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the Basic Requirement for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Additional Requirement for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a residency program in podiatry or complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Board Eligible or Board Certified by the appropriate Specialty Board is preferred. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Completed a Foot and Ankle Surgery Residency or currently enrolled in a Foot and Ankle Surgery Residency and is expected to complete such program within 9 months of applying. (Must submit documentation from an appropriate official affiliated with the professional program that attests to the applicable timeframe for completion of the professional program.) The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are actively completing a required professional training program and are expected to complete such program within 9 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Position is open until filled, the position may close earlier than the current closing date. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
