Summary: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-5: Four (4) years of experience in inspectional, investigational, technical support, or other responsible work that provided a knowledge and a fundamental understanding of, and the ability to use, environmental health principles, methods, and techniques equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4- year college curriculum. OR Completion of a full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree, and that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in a science or any combination of sciences directly related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical science). OR A combination of education and experience that meets the requirements for the GS-5 as described above. GS-7: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: inspecting and providing advice for proper food preparation and sanitation; inspecting facilities and water/wastewater systems for compliance with standards and regulations; inspecting institutions such as Head Starts, daycare centers, schools, ambulatory health care facilities, elderly nutrition programs, and/or business establishments against standards and regulations; preparing written reports to discuss findings and recommendations for environmental health conditions of facilities; and assisting in the development of a comprehensive environmental health program based on the needs of the community. OR One (1) full year of graduate level education related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical sciences appropriate to the position). OR Completion of a bachelors degree in a field related to environmental health with Superior Academic Achievement. Superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical sciences appropriate to the position). Superior Academic Achievement is based on class standing, grade-point average, or honor society membership. OR A combination of education and experience that meets the requirements for the GS-7 as described above. GS-9: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: independently inspecting and providing advice for proper food preparation and sanitation; inspecting facilities and water/wastewater systems for compliance with standards and regulations; inspecting institutions such as Head Starts, daycare centers, schools, ambulatory health care facilities, elderly nutrition programs, and/or business establishments against standards and regulations; preparing written reports to discuss finding and recommendations for environmental health conditions of facilities. OR Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical sciences appropriate to the position). OR A combination of education and experience that meets the requirements for the GS-9 as described above. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
