Summary: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. GS-4 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet the following requirements: Possession of an associate's degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program GS-5 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one full year of professional nursing experience: Formulate nursing diagnosis to appropriately provide care for patients across the life span, from neonates to geriatric patients, including medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients in the Emergency Department. GS-7 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-policies/#url=General-Policies); OR Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level): Triage by assessing patients' clinical conditions, recognizing, identifying serious situations, prioritizing, and immediately using clinical judgment in deciding upon and taking proper action, for example, to inform physician and take preplanned measures. Consults with charge nurse or preceptor when patient conditions warrant. OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience: Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations when the physician is not immediately available, for example implement basic cardiac life support in case of cardiac or respiratory arrest. Consults with charge nurse or preceptor when patient condition warrants. OR Completion of at least one (1) full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. GS-9 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a Master's degree in professional nursing; OR Possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one full year of Professional Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 or above): Assess and care for the nursing needs of ER patients and other types of patients; recognize and intervene in acute life-threatening situations, develop plan of care to meet the needs of patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react swiftly in emergency situations; triage patients; plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department. GS-10 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one (1) full year of Professional Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 or above): Preparing emergency room patients for and assist with examinations or treatments. Managing the care of patients who present to the Emergency Department with a wide variety of problems ranging from non-urgent complaints to life-threatening emergent conditions. Experience in assessing the immediate needs of patients, prioritizing and organizing the plan of care from Emergency Department admission through discharge. Experience performing charge nurse and/or team lead responsibilities.
