To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications for GS-05: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level OR 4 Years of Education above the High School Level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples include: Reviewing medical records to gather information on the reasons for admission and length of stay, referring information to quality assurance specialist for accreditation requirement; preparing correspondence and summaries of medical records in response to request; selecting and assigning a principle code along with other codes; ensuring the medical record is complete for accuracy. Minimum Qualifications for GS-06: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level. Examples include: Entering billing transaction codes and data from charge tickets; working with automated records systems, data entry and encoder software; using coding conventions, techniques, coding rules and regulations; maintaining confidentiality of medical records. Minimum Qualifications for GS-07: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Grade Level. Examples include: Evaluating the medical record for internal consistency and completeness; responsible for coding the diagnoses, operations and/or procedures from the medical record and entering into the resources and patient management system; assuring the final diagnosis and operative procedures as slated by the physician are valid and complete; making final determination that the record is complete, accurate and reflects sufficient data to justify the diagnosis. Minimum Qualifications for GS-08: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 Grade Level. Examples include: Accurately assigning and sequencing medical codes for all diagnoses, procedures, and services; reviewing and assigning accurate current procedural terminology codes; analyzing medical documentation to assure the appropriate evaluation and management levels are assigned; responsible for coding all related ambulatory visits. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
