Speech Language Pathologist

Position is located in the TON Health Care. Position works under the general supervision of the Physical Therapist Supervisor.
Provide a full-range of speech language pathology evaluation methods and treatment interventions. Assists with the administrative functions of the TONHC Rehabilitation Services Department as needed including attending assigned meetings, adjusting patient schedules, participating in supply inventory/ordering, and participating in quality improvement.
|Duties:||* Provides evaluation tests and measures and interprets findings in order to establish a speech language pathology intervention or plan of care. * Plans, conducts, and coordinates all aspects of diagnostic assessments (including bedside swallow assessments), evaluations and therapeutic and rehabilitative services for speech, language, voice, fluency, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. * Maintains daily documentation of all treatments provided with written assessment of patient's status for all contacts. ? * Documents information/patient care on to the patient's PCC Ambulatory Care Record and/or electronic health record (EHR). * Initiates emergency measure, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), appropriate to skill level; assists with retrieving emergency medical equipment. ? * Assists health providers in examination of patients by explaining procedures, positioning the patient, assembling, arranging and draping instruments and gathering supplies. ? Assists with escorting/transporting patient to various hospital departments. ? *Assists with the administrative functions of the Rehabilitation Services Department as needed including: attending assigned meetings, adjusting patient schedules, participating in supply inventory/ordering, and participating in quality improvement. ? *Obtains medical records and screens charts for possible implementation of other necessary forms that may be required with the patient's visit. ? *Performs clinical duties and special clinical program responsibilities, e.g. interdisciplinary teams or highly specialized clinical programs such as dysphagia, traumatic brain injury, nursing homecare, stroke management, spinal cord injury, temporomandibular joint pain, Bell's Palsy or head/neck cancer programs. ? *Performs duties with an understanding of basic infection control, patient isolation and universal precautions. ? *Applies advanced theories and techniques to special patient population; provides professional advice, consultation and counseling in specialized areas of speech-language pathology. ? Manages complex and difficult patients with multiple physical, sensory, motor, cognitive, or other issues that complicate communications or swallowing status, and involve multiple clinical management options, difficult clinical decision making, complex data, and high risk of complications, morbidity, or mortality, e.g. tracheoesophageal voice prostheses and laryngectomy tubes, ventilator dependent and tracheostomy patients with speaking values, and those receiving poly-pharmacy impacting on communication. ? Conducts self with high ethical standards and no history of complaints. ? * Assists with program development and continued interaction with community groups as indicated. ? * Maintains a courteous and professional manner when in contact with patients, family, and other customers. ? * Upholds all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent. ? Maintains positive professional attitude, demonstrates good interpersonal communications skills. ? * Assists in orientation of new personnel. ? * Adheres to Privacy Act regulations, HIPAA and maintains patient confidentiality. ? Participates in the Continuous Performance Improvement Program. ? * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences. ? * Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. ? * Performs other job related duties as assigned.|
|Qualifications:||* Master's Degree in Speech Pathology. ? * Current and unrestricted Speech Language Pathologist. ? * Experience with Native American populations preferred. * Basic Life Support and CPR Certification. ? * Bilingual O'odham/English preferred. ? * Valid driver's license with no DUI's or major traffic citations within the last three years. * Must submit a 39-month driving record with the employment application. ? * Ability to meet the Nation's tribal employer's insurance requirements. ? *Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire. ? * Tribal preference and Native American preference shall apply to all positions.|
