Summary: Dillingham is located in the beautiful Bristol Bay region of Alaska and has a population of about 2500 until the summer months when it booms to about 10,000 for the fishing season. We are the salmon fishing capitol of the United States and there are many outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, kayaking and more. The Kanakanak Hospital is a 16-bed critical access hospital and Dillingham is surrounded by 27 villages that it also serves.

Functions as a staff physician of the 16 bed general medical hospital which provides medical service to the Bristol Bay residents.
Duties: Routinely examines medical, obstetric and pediatric patients and outlines a plan for necessary care including, as appropriate, laboratory tests, x-rays, etc. Examines all available records, determines preliminary diagnoses and institutes treatment. Keeps detailed clinical records. Performs procedures and treats a variety of diseases, injuries, and medical problems as defined by his/her medical privileges. Consults with the Clinical Director or appropriate specialist at ANMC on difficult cases. Recommends and arranges transfer of patients to the Alaska Native Medical Center or other tertiary center as appropriate. ***see website or poster for full detailed job description.*** 4. Makes daily rounds, visits patients, observing their condition and response to treatment, and discusses pertinent results and observations with fellow staff members. Instructs or arranges for instruction of patients and related matters.
Qualifications: Graduation with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from a U.S. medical school, or an Osteopathic Medical School listed as approved by the American Council on Graduate Medication/Education and hospitals, American Medical Association in the list published for the year of graduation, and completion of an approved internship/residency in Family Practice. Foreign medical school graduates may be considered if they have passed the FLEX Exam or equivalent and completed an approved U.S. internship or residency program. Permanent and full or unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alaska. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric) and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit's policies and procedures. Must successfully pass the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention (ICPA) background check.
