October is Health Literacy Month!
Health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the ability to obtain, process, and understand information so they can make decisions about their health care. Seeking medical care, taking medications correctly, and following prescribed treatments requires the capacity to access and apply health information. Limited health literacy can lead to medication errors, increased health care costs, and decreased care for chronic health conditions.
