National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual observance to increase awareness of breast cancer risks, screening and treatment options. American Indian and Alaska Native women have the lowest incidence of breast cancer and yet, have the lowest breast cancer survival rate of any ethnic group in the United States. Breast cancer is in one of the five most common causes of cancer death among American Indian and Alaska Native women. Learn about how the Indian Health Service is increasing breast cancer screenings through educational initiatives and capacity building at IHS and tribal facilities.
