August is National Immunization Awareness Month
August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Shots (or vaccines) help prevent dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases. Vaccines aren’t just for kids – adults need to get vaccinated to stay protected from serious illnesses like the flu, measles, and pneumonia. According to the CDC, there have been over 1,100 measles cases confirmed in over 30 states this year. This is the greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since 1992 and since measles was declared eliminated in 2000. The best way to protect you and your family, especially young children, from measles and other preventable diseases is to make sure immunization records are up to date.
