National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
The Indian Health Service is observing National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, and the agency’s partnership in the HHS initiative Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America and the president’s proposed budget of $25 million for the Eliminating Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS in Indian Country Initiative. On the first day of spring, March 20, National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day serves as an opportunity to increase awareness of the impact of HIV/AIDS on American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. It also welcomes the opportunity for Native people and others to create a greater awareness of the risks of HIV/AIDS to their communities, to remember those who have passed, and to acknowledge those who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
