October is Health Literacy Month

October is Health Literacy Month

Over the last 20 years, Health Literacy Month is a time for organizations and individuals to promote the importance of understandable health information. Health literacy is the level at which people obtain, process, and understand health information and services needed to make appropriate decisions about their health. For American Indian and Alaska Native communities, health literacy improvement methods include cultural diversity, patient-provider communication, and appropriate written materials.

Health Literacy is important and there are many ways that we can get involved in making health information accessible and comprehensive for everyone.
