Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month promotes public awareness about sexual assault.  Sexual assault and its consequences impacts all communities including the American Indian and Alaska Native population.  According to the U.S. Department of Justice, more than half of American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.  One in four American Indian and Alaska Native men have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.  Throughout April, IHS will highlight agency accomplishments that support Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
