  • The Indian Health Care Improvement Act (IHCIA) establishes numerous programs specifically created by Congress to address particular Indian health issues, including urban Indian health. Through the IHCIA, Congress “establish[ed] programs in urban centers to make health services more accessible to urban Indians.” This needs assessment, required by H. Rept. No. 111-180, p. 145, entitled, Needs Assessment of the Urban Indian Health Program and the Communities it Serves, provides estimates of the current health status and health care needs of the urban AI/AN populations residing in urban centers.
