Summary:

In order to address the dual epidemics of Chronic Pain and Unintended Overdose within Indian Country, IHS, in partnership with the University of New Mexico Project ECHO and the Center for Rural and Community Behavioral Health, is providing Essential Training on Pain and Addiction. This training will be essential for all IHS providers who have a DEA number and will provide 5 hours of free CE.

In order to minimize the impact on patient care, this training will be conducted via Adobe Connect. This platform will allow you to connect and participate from any internet connected device [including mobile devices]. Be aware that it is expected that you will complete the entire session in one day, otherwise you will have to restart the training.

Total Time= 6 hours [5 hours of training, 30 min. lunch break, 15 min. breaks x 2]

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss the epidemic of unintentional opiate overdose deaths.
2. List Institute of Medicine Guidelines for Best Practices in pain management.
3. Explain safe prescribing of opiate analgesics, with detailed equianalgesic dosing guidelines.
4. Identify the patient at risk for addictions, current addictions issues, and diversion.
5. Refer to Federal regulations regarding pain management.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
