DA0003: Restorative Expanded Functions - CERTIFICATION [COMPOSITE-only]
Following completion of the IHS Restorative Composite-Only Expanded Function Course, dental assistants have ONE YEAR to complete the post-course requirements of completing dental restorations which are checked and scored by the dentist at their home clinic using the evaluation form that was given out after the EFDA Course.
Once this requirement is met, the DENTAL DIRECTOR/CHIEF [the dentist whose license the EFDA will work under] must send the following message to IHSCDECoordinator@ihs.gov:
_______________________ [name of EFDA] has satisfactorily completed the post-course requirements as a [periodontal, basic restorative, advanced restorative, composite-only restorative – choose one] EFDA. He/she [choose one] took course ____ [course number] on ______ [date] at ______________ [location]. A copy of his/her [choose one] evaluation form is being maintained in this office. Please issue instructions for certification.”
The IHS CDE Coordinator will then provide a completion code to this course to the EFDA for certification. The dental assistant will then log into this course, enter the completion code, and print his/her Restorative COMPOSITE-ONLY Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate, proudly hanging it in the dental clinic so patients can be assured of the high quality care that is being provided.
ANNUAL COMPETENCY: The Dental Director/Dental Chief is encouraged to complete an annual competency evaluation on the restorative EFDA to ensure high quality care is being delivered. The annual competency evaluation can be found on the IHS Dental Portal under the Clinic Tab - Competencies.
None - this is a certificate as a result of post-course work
