DE0167: Diabetes Online CDE: Breastfeeding and Depression
This webinar is offered through a collaboration with the IHS Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention, with the recording available on the DDTP website at https://www.ihs.gov/diabetes/training/cmece-online-edu/diabetes-online-cme-ce-education/. The course will be live on June 21, 2018 but the recorded version will be available for three years.
Breast feeding is an evidence based early intervention for reducing risk for obesity and diabetes. This session will include presentation of the literature and research related to depression and its effect on success and duration of breastfeeding. Information on the effect of breastfeeding on state of depression will also be discussed. The IHS promotes and tracks breast feeding via efforts such as the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, the Diabetes Treatment and Prevention Program Best Practices, and GPRA.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Advise pregnant women and mothers on the effects of depression and depressive trauma on breastfeeding.
2. Examine information about how breastfeeding can improve depression rates in postpartum women.
3. Provide education on the ways breastfeeding protects the mental health of postpartum women.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
