DE0261: Diabetes Online CDE: Updated Nutrition Facts Label - information for diabetes educators [and others]
In May of 2016, the FDA announced the updated Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods to reflect updated scientific information, including the link between diet and chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease. This presentation will update diabetes educators in clinical and community settings on the major changes to the Nutrition Facts label. Practical, “behind the label” information on the use of the updated food labeling to empower participants to deliver effective Nutrition Facts label education within the communities they serve will be provided. FDA plans for educating consumers on the Nutrition Facts label will be shared, and participants will have an opportunity to help shape FDA education efforts by sharing their patient education best-practices.
