2022 Catalog: General Courses
DE0350: Diabetes Online CDE: Individualizing Care for People with Progressive Kidney Disease
Overall Course Summary
Individualizing care in progressive chronic kidney disease is a challenge. Though a range of guidelines have been published, high quality evidence to support many recommendations is limited. Many recommendations are based on discrete biochemical cut-offs, though these laboratory results may be subject to a level of uncertainty which should temper some clinical decisions. This presentation will discuss approaches to treatment of hypertension, hyperglycemia, mineral bone disease, nutrition, and preparation for renal replacement therapy which clinicians may find useful in addressing the individual needs of each patient with progressive chronic kidney disease.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Utilize lab tests for identifying and monitoring CKD and assessing progression.
2. Discuss treatment choices for patients with progressive kidney disease.
3. Explain the benefits of individualizing patient care plans to achieving good outcomes in progressive kidney disease.
