2023 Catalog: All Courses

This presentation is designed to disseminate current research on the linkages between hunger and health across Indian Country and explain the results of a recent food access survey among Native American communities. The presentation will provide an overview of food security and its connection to diabetes; outline the prevalence of food insecurity found among the survey respondents; describe changes in food access during COVID-19 among survey respondents; provide examples of resilient Native-led initiatives to address food insecurity across Indian Country; and conclude with steps for health care providers to connect their clients/patients to food security supports within their communities and opportunities to advocate for improvements to federal food and nutrition programs.

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Examine food insecurity and the rates of household food insecurity reported by Native American communities
2. Identify linkages between hunger and health conditions and their impact on diabetes
3. Inform clients/patients on Native-led food security initiatives and federal nutrition programs available to support their food access and food security

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
