Dr. Joel Knutson and LCDR Jennifer Curtis will review: Coding for the Adult Patient.

LCDR Curtis will provide guidance specific for coding for the hygiene appointment.

Dr. Knutson will review the CY 2020 changes to the ADA CDT code file; suggestions for linking CDT to ICD-10 codes; and setting up Dentrix CDT to ICD-10 cross-coding to maximize automation and accuracy of CDT and ICD-10 data communication between Dentrix and RPMS. Examples of Dentrix screen shots will be reviewed to demonstrate Dentrix coding procedures that clinic staff may not routinely use or view.

LCDR Jennifer Curtis has served as a U.S. Public Health Service Officer since October 16, 2006 and the Indian Health Service since September 2015. LCDR Curtis holds a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Science in Health Administration from Southern California Health Sciences Independence University. During her career as a U.S. Public Health Service Officer, LCDR Curtis served as Chief Corporate Compliance Officer for 6 ambulatory clinics, a critical access hospital and a rehabilitation center. LCDR Curtis has extensive training and experience on coding and billing processes. LCDR Curtis obtained a certification in Health Care Compliance and Privacy through the Health Care Compliance Association.

Dr. Joel Knutson is the Dental informatics and Electronic Dental Record Project Officer for the Indian Health Service. As such, Joel is responsible for administration and day-to-day management of the IHS Dentrix Enterprise Electronic Dental Record contract supporting 240 IHS dental clinics throughout the United States. Dr. Knutson's previous dental informatics experience includes 9 years’ experience with the Defense Health Agency, TRICARE and the Military Medical Support Office during his 26-year active duty career in the US military.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:
1. List at least three coding concepts specific for hygiene appointments
2. Identify the three cost common components of an implant for coding
3. Select the most appropriate ICD-10 code using the Dentrix CDT to ICD-10 cross-coding set up

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
