2023 Catalog: General Courses

Older adults and people who have underlying medical conditions like diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness. This presentation will review the differences in overall pathophysiology in elders compared to younger patients in terms of capacity for response and recovery from infections such as the COVID-19 virus.
Clinical considerations to assist in providing the safest and best care for elders will be discussed. A review of specific efforts that caregivers need to be aware of in order to optimize outcomes during this crisis will also be included.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.   Summarize the differences between elders vs. younger patients and their capacity to respond and recover from infections.
2.   Incorporate key concepts of individualizing caring for elders and other vulnerable patients into clinical practice.
3.   Continue to help people with diabetes stay healthy and prepared in a time of potential illness or emergency as a result of COVID-19.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
