The Indian Health Service (IHS) and federal and non-federal partners offer training opportunities, professional development, and resources for health professionals. Continuing education credits may also be available. Health professionals are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities for training and growth in their area of work.

IHS Tele-Behavioral Health Center of Excellence

The IHS Tele-Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (TBHCE) offers a wide variety of online educational events in conjunction with the University of New Mexico and other IHS divisions. Training topics vary from IHS Clinical Rounds, Pain and Addiction, Traumatic Brain Injury, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Parenting, Counseling Techniques, Child Mental Health, Psychopharmacology, Historical Trauma, and more.

DHHS, Office of Minority Health – Cultural Competence Training

9 hours no-cost CME/CE credit

Cultural and language differences may engender misunderstanding, difficulty following treatment recommendations, or other factors that negatively influence clinical situations. A Physician's Practical Guide to Culturally Competent Care, is a self-directed training course designed for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. This e-learning program is hosted by Office of Minority Health and offers up to 9 hours of no-cost CME/CE credit. It equips health care professionals with awareness, knowledge, and skills to better treat the increasingly diverse U.S. population they serve. Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Trainings

The VHA Training Finder Real-time Affiliate Integrated Network (TRAIN) is a learning management system provided by the Public Health Foundation. In addition to programs focused on care for Veterans, a comprehensive catalog of over 1,000 public health topics, including diabetes and other chronic diseases, is available. Some courses offer CME/CE credit and are no cost, while others may have a fee associated with the training. Both live and recorded training opportunities are provided.
