Locations

All Indian Health Service nurses live and practice in a variety of settings throughout the United States, many surrounded by spectacular natural beauty. Each area offers its own unique career experiences and provides the opportunity to live and work in diverse Native American or Alaska Native communities that are rich in their own traditions.

An Indian Health Service nurse can choose to stay in one location or transfer to other locations, further exploring American Indian and Alaskan Native cultures and geographic regions.

The Indian Health Service is divided into twelve physical areas of the United States; Alaska, Albuquerque, Bemidji, Billings, California, Great Plains, Nashville, Navajo, Oklahoma, Phoenix, Portland and Tucson. Each of these areas has a unique group of Tribes that they work with on a day to day basis.

Visit the IHS Locations page for information on each location.
