Summary:

Much of what we know of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors in American Indian communities comes from the Strong Heart Study [SHS]. This presentation will provide lessons learned about cardiovascular disease prevalence and incidence in SHS participants, specific clinical tools developed from the SHS to help medical providers predict and manage cardiovascular risk, and summarize what is known about cardiovascular disease risk in American Indian/Alaska Native youth.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Examine cardiovascular disease epidemiology in American Indians
2. Interface with the Strong Heart Study cardiovascular disease risk calculators
3. Recognize the importance of early intervention strategies to address cardiovascular risk in American Indians which begins in the pediatric years

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
