Summary:

This course is offered to staff at Puyallup clinic only.

During this highly interactive full-day workshop health care providers will have an opportunity to learn how to effectively enhance motivation in their patients who are ambivalent and reluctant to change. This evidence based Motivational Interviewing method can be integrated to address health behavior change in all areas of the health care system. During this workshop health care providers will learn about the spirit of Motivational Interviewing and be able to practice using the specific tools of Motivational Interviewing.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Recognize the spirit of MI in their interactions with patients.
2. Compare different communication styles.
3. Practice OARS.
4. Verbally express the four MI principles to their patients.
5. Practice eliciting and strengthening ‘change talk’.
6. Practice using the Consultation Guide.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
