Summary:

The purpose of this webinar is to provide IHS, tribal, and urban dental program staff information about the 2021 Give Kids a Smile Day program. The IHS will participate in this annual event on an unprecedented scale. We hope to get 100 or more clinics to focus that one day on providing oral health services to as many children as possible in schools, in the clinic, or through health fairs. The goals of the IHS participation are:
a.   Change the public perception of IHS dental care.
b.   Help in recruitment of dentists and other oral health professionals in IHS dental programs.
c.   Publicize the successes of IHS such as the decreases in caries in 1-5 and 6-9 year-old American Indian/Alaska Native children.
d.   Improve access to dental care and preventive services for AI/AN children [to better meet Healthy People 2030 goals].

Learning Objectives:

Upon completing of this one-hour webinar, participants should be able to:
1. Describe the history of the Give Kids a Smile [GKAS] Campaign;
2. List at least two goals of the IHS wanting national participation by IHS, tribal, and urban dental programs throughout the country;
3. Register for 2021 Give Kids a Smile Campaign.
