Overall Course Summary
[brief description of the course; this will appear in the CDE catalog]:   The SDPI Diabetes Prevention Demonstration Project demonstrated that type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed among AI/ANs with prediabetes, building on the evidence reported by the Diabetes Prevention Program in 2002. Since 2010, the National DPP has been building a nationwide system to deliver the evidence-based lifestyle change program [LCP] to prevent type 2 diabetes adults with prediabetes. Tribes and tribal-serving organizations experienced with lifestyle change programs are well-positioned to participate in the National DPP. This session will offer information on the National DPP, tailoring the program to meet local needs, and achieving CDC recognition, which may help with third party reimbursements, including recent Medicaid updates, and program sustainability.

Learning Objectives:

1.   Examine the components of the National Diabetes Prevention Program lifestyle change program.
2.   Identify the benefits of achieving CDC recognition.
3.   Implement new tailored practices to improve local diabetes program outcomes.
