DE0352: Diabetes Online CDE: Motivational Interviewing - Helping People with Diabetes Make Self-Directed Health Decisions
Overall Course Summary
Managing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes is a challenge for patients and clinicians. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based, collaborative, guided approach to health behavior change that can help confront this challenge. It is centered in partnering with patients to encourage and support behavior change. This session will provide an overview of what motivational interview is along with some tools and techniques which can be used to assist patients with behavior change.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Examine Motivational Interviewing [MI] and the role it can play in diabetes self-management.
2. Identify the key concepts of patient centered decision making.
3. Implement MI tools and techniques to assist patients with behavior change.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
