Summary:

This is the third of a five-part series on improving and raising awareness of dental infection control issues in IHS, tribal and urban dental programs.

This webinar covers OSHA's Standards for Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] in the dental setting. The proper steps of donning and doffing PPE will be covered. Standard precautions and transmission-based precautions will be reviewed.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Damon Pope currently serves as the EDR Deputy Director and the IHS DOH National Infection Control Consultant with the Indian Health Service [IHS] Division of Oral Health [DOH]. Dr. Damon Pope received his Doctor of Dental Medicine [DMD] from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After dental school, Dr. Pope joined the Air Force and furthered his education by completing an Advanced Education of General Dentistry residency at Scott Air Force Base. He also completed an Advanced Clinical Dentistry Preceptorship at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He continued to serve in the Air Force four years before joining the IHS team at the Crow Service Unit as a Chief Dental Officer [CDO]. After serving three years at the Crow Service Unit, Dr. Pope transferred to the Warm Springs Health and Wellness Center and served as the CDO for over five years. Dr. Pope was asked to be the IHS DOH National Dental Infection Control Consultant in 2017. He currently leads the twelve member IHS DOH National Infection Control and Prevention Committee. In 2021, Dr. Pope was detailed to IHS DOH focus his efforts on helping clinics overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Pope has no disclosures to report.

Upon completion of this training/course, participants should be able to:
1. Identify the steps and proper sequence of donning PPE
2. Identify the steps and proper sequence of doffing PPE
3. Understand what the difference is between standard precautions and transmission based precautions.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
