The Monthly IHS CDE Webinars are available to all IHS, tribal, and urban dental program staff [dentists, dental hygienists, dental health aide therapists, community dental health coordinators, expanded function dental assistants, dental assistants, and dental health aides].

Nearly 20 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections affect people in the U.S. each year, according to the CDC. Often, the first signs of infections are found in the mouth. Recently, the IHS Division of Oral Health teamed up with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board and the National HIV/AIDS Program to develop an STI Education Initiative for dental clinics. Two programs, the Santa Fe Service Unit and the Oklahoma City Indian Dental Clinic, joined this initiative that involved a brief education by dental providers. Join this first webinar of FY 2024 to learn about the increasing rates of STIs in the U.S. and in Indian Country and what you can do in your IHS, tribal, or urban dental clinic to provide a brief intervention on STIs to promote overall health. Learn also some of the clinical signs of STI’s.

Upon completion of this training/course, participants should be able to:
1.   Discuss the prevalence and trends of sexually transmitted infections in the U.S.;
2.   Recognize oral manifestations of sexually transmitted infections;
3.   Describe the impact of sexually transmitted infections in AI/AN communities; and
4.   Provide brief education to dental patients in IHS, tribal, and urban programs about STIs and oral health.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
