ECR is a dental condition characterized by the loss of tooth structure at the cervical of a tooth's root. It can be caused by various factors, including trauma, orthodontic treatment, periodontal disease, and external chemical damage. ECR can present with symptoms such as pain, sensitivity, and visible changes in tooth structure. Diagnosis involves clinical examination and radiographic imaging. Treatment options range from prevention strategies to conservative management and, in some cases, surgical intervention. Early detection and prevention are crucial in managing ECR, as it can lead to tooth loss. Ongoing research aims to advance our understanding of this condition and improve treatment outcomes. This presentation will provide a clinical look at management of ECR over three decades and discuss current strategies and considerations. This course is only open to Tuba City dental staff.

1.   Provide information regarding Clinical Signs and Symptoms: an evolution in our ability to recognize the clinical manifestations of ECR, including radiographic imaging, tooth color changes, and pain.
2.   Discuss Diagnostic Methods and techniques for diagnosing ECR [standard radiography, CBCT scans, clinical examinations] and our ability to differentiate this entity from other dental conditions [caries, abrasions, attrition]. Including clinical improvements in using these methods over time.
3.   Present various treatment modalities for ECR used over three decades including restorative procedures, endodontic therapy, and surgical interventions. This will be accomplished using real-life cases and clinical examples to illustrate the diagnosis and management of ECR.
4.   Discuss long term prognosis and the potential outcomes for patients with ECR.
5.   Provide suggestions for preventive measures and patient education to reduce the risk of ECR development.
6.   Consider Ethical Considerations and Informed Consent: emphasis on the importance of ethical practices and obtaining informed consent when diagnosing and treating External cervical root resorption.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
