There is a wealth of scientific evidence showing a link between oral disease and some systemic diseases. This presentation will discuss how periodontitis is linked to systemic conditions through inflammation and even invasion of periodontal pathogens beyond the oral cavity. We will then more specifically discuss the link between periodontitis and dementia, and look at proposed biologic mechanisms behind this link.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.   Discuss how periodontal disease can increase systemic inflammation.
2.   Describe how inflammation is related to dementia.
3.   Describe how periodontitis might be linked to dementia via bacterial invasion.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
