AI/AN Community Crisis Response Guidelines

Introduction

The Community Practice Guidelines are an effort to address the importance of federal and tribal partnerships in addressing suicide behavior-related crises. These guidelines recommend responsibilities and procedures for Tribes, who receive services through Indian Health Service (IHS), in requesting assistance in suicide prevention and early/post intervention from the IHS Division of Behavioral Health (DBH).

It is the intention of the IHS that AI/AN people who are experiencing suicidal ideations, have made affirmative gestures or plans to attempt suicide, or are family members of a suicide victim, shall have access to behavioral health services in accordance with this protocol.
