Adults need to get daily physical activity to stay strong and healthy.

Staying active helps you:

  • Sleep better
  • Get to and be at a healthy weight
  • Have a better mood
  • Build strong muscles and bones
  • Keep your brain healthy
  • Increase mobility
  • Reduce your risk for chronic diseases
  • Increase lifespan

Adults ages 18 through 64 should participate in an average of at least 150 minutes (two-and-a-half hours) per week of aerobic activity such as running, swimming, sports, walking, and other exercise that increases heart rate.

Two days a week, adults should also engage in strengthening activities such as resistance or weight training.
