Purchased Referred Care (PRC)

The PRC program offers assistance with medical, dental and behavioral health care needs by contracting with non-IHS providers when IHS is unable to offer these services. PRC utilizes a system to prioritize referrals for approval based on urgency and severity of the medical need. We follow regulations on eligibility, notification, residency, and medical priority. The IHS acts as the payer of last resort, ensuring all other resources before accessing PRC funds. This approach maximizes limited resources and expands vital services to more Indians.

PRC funds are used in the following situations:

  • No IHS direct care facility exists.
  • The direct care facility cannot provide the required emergency or specialty care.
  • The direct care facility has an overflow of medical care workload.

PRC is limited to services that are medically indicated within the established medical priorities. See links below for more information.

Keep an eye out! Dental services will be provided soon!
